Dari: Jawatankuasa Mempertahankan Sekolah Asal dan Memohon Sekolah Kedua

SJKC Damansara

Kenyataan Akhbar 2/3/2001

From: The Committee to Retain The Original School and Apply For The Second School

SJKC Damansara

Press Statement 2 Mac 2001

  1. The Committee assure the public that the education of the students studying in the original school will not be compromised. The students are forced to study in the temporary classroms set up in the nearby temple after their well-equiped school gate are locked by the Education Ministry. Despite this, the studying environment has been continuously improved. With the help of Dong Jiao Zong (the national umbrella body of Chinese Schools Committees and Teachers), the Committee is arranging for containers to be used as temporary classroom as well as the service of fulltime teachers in addition of the present volunteers. The Committee also works on purchasing desks, chairs, teaching materials and teaching aids. We are glad that many individuals and organisations have offered to sponsor some of them.

At the present, the students are actually getting more attention and guildance as the classes are smaller.

  2. From 3 January to date, the volunteer teachers have followed the Education Ministry's syllabus in their teaching and the students have not been absent from their normal classes. All that lacking is just the well-equiped classrooms to which the students' accesses have been denied because of the Education Ministry's decision to lock up their community schools. Therefore, the question of 'students absent for 60 days' does not arise here.

  3. There is one and only simple solution for the SJKC Damansara : open the school gate and let the students study in their proper classrooms. Therefore, the political parties and politicians do not have to crack their heads for other solutions than pursuading the Education Ministry to respect the aspiration and the need of the residents and parents.

  4. The Committee alsourges the Education Ministry, political parties and politicians not to create more unnecessary confusions by threats such as 'terminating the students' or "to convert again the new school as SJKT or SK".

  5. The Committee appeals to all communities nationwide to request, preserve and develop their community schools so that the children can walk to schools and enjoy their childhood without having to wake up early to catch bus. This is only possible if the school is located within the community. When every community has the schools they want, the children will have more sleeps while the town roads less trafics, noises and pollutions. The Committee wish to extend its salution to those communities in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Perak and Penang that will organize their 'We need schools' candle lights activities in their neighbourhoods respectively tonight or within this month. We wish them great success.
