Beserah: Demam Lapuran Menjadi-jadi? By Kapal Berita 4/4/2001 10:46 am Wed |
pemimpin Umno susah hati - terutamanya presiden Umno sendiri kerana
banyak orang kanannya amat bermasalah sekali.
pucat lesi menjelang perhimpunan agung nanti....
menderita sampai mati. Yang menariknya Umno juga amat
memerlukan pembedahan segera selepas lapuran Fauzi sehingga
sama-sekali. -Kapal Berita- Rencana Rujukkan: Police hands over Fauzi's report against Khalil to ACA
Four other police reports were also lodged by Kuantan Umno members
Police have handed over the report lodged by Kuantan Umno chief Datuk
Fauzi Abdul Rahman against party secretary-general Tan Sri Khalil Yaakob
to the Anti-Corruption Agency for investigations.
Fauzi had on Wednesday reported that Khalil, the former Pahang Menteri
Besar, was involved in misappropriation of State resources.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Noor Hamat said the report was handed over to
the Pahang ACA on the same day the report was lodged.
"After studying the report, we decided that it was only proper for the ACA to
investigate. He told this to reporters when met after the opening ceremony of the Police's
Fifth Karate Championship by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk
Mohd Jamil Johari here today. Mohd Noor also revealed that four other reports were lodged by Kuantan
Umno members who were not satisfied with certain things in the division.
The reports were made at the district police headquarters in the past few days.
"The four reports do not state the reason or if it was against Khalil or anything
about money politics. These are only general reports lodged by those not
satisfied with the things happening in Umno Kuantan," he said.
Mohd Noor said the four reports had no other documents attached.

April 03 , 2001 15:48PM KUANTAN, April 3 (Bernama) -- Kuantan Umno division chief Datuk
Fauzi Abdul Rahman, who tendered his resignation as Beserah

accepts my resignation today itself, I shall submit the letter
to the Speaker tomorrow," Fauzi told 50 MCA leaders in his
constituency at a meeting here last night.
Fauzi explained to them events leading to his decision to give
up the seat which he won in the 1999 general election after
defeating PAS challenger Mohamed Yusof Ibrahim by a majority

Fauzi stands by police report By Azran Aziz, Joniston Bangkuai and Firdaus Abdullah news@nstp.com.my
KUALA LUMPUR, Sun. - Kuantan Umno division chief Datuk Fauzi Abdul
Rahman said today he would not withdraw his police report against party
secretary-general Tan Sri Khalil Yaakob.
"I have no intention to withdraw it as it contains important matters that ought
to be investigated," Fauzi said. Speaking to the New Straits Times at his residence here, Fauzi said the
authorities must be allowed to carry out their duties without interference.
He said his report contained "basic facts" which, if investigated, would show
malpractices that had incurred losses to the Pahang Government running
into millions of ringgit. "I'm not alleging that Khalil benefited from these acts," he said.
"All I'm saying is that Pahang has lost a considerable amount of revenue
from timber concessions." It is understood Kuantan police have confiscated several documents from a
company reportedly linked to the report.
Fauzi, the former Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, also
called for the inclusion of Anti-Corruption Agency officials and the police in
Umno's ad hoc committee to investigate money politics and misuse of power
in the Kuantan Umno division. Asked if he had confidence in the committee, Fauzi said: "I still have my
reservations. I think it would be better if they could include authorities such
as the police and ACA." Fauzi, who has been an Umno member for over 30 years, urged party
members and leaders, especially those in Pahang, to view his actions with
wisdom. He said though some were very vocal and have accused him of creating
problems for the party, his intentions are noble.
"The party president (Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad) (made) repeated
calls to weed out undesirable elements, specifically money politics, from
Umno. "I'm only contributing my part to this endeavour.
"So, it's wrong to say that I'm attempting to damage or tarnish the image of
the party." Fauzi said such allegations could be true if he had switched to another party
and remained an elected representative. "Allegations that I'm contemplating to join the opposition now is also
ridiculous as I would have done so without having to quit my seat.
"Now if (Pahang Umno liaison chief) Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob accepts my
resignation, then I cannot stand in any election for five years. Why would I
want to do such a thing?" Earlier today, Fauzi confirmed that he had an audience with the Sultan of
Pahang on Friday in connection with his intention to resign as Beserah State
Assemblyman. "I was summoned to Istana Mahkota. During the meeting, the Ruler made it
clear that he did not wish to meddle in politics.
"He, however, reminded me that unity among his subjects should be given
priority." Fauzi added that the Sultan had summoned him to the palace because the
Ruler had wanted to hear from the "horse's mouth" what had transpired.
"It is better this way because if the Sultan were to hear the information from a
third party, then it might be inaccurate.
"I can understand his concern as the State ruler because this involves his
subjects." Fauzi met Adnan on Thursday night and on Friday, handed in his
resignation letter. In Labuan, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said
four of the 12 Umno disciplinary board members would sit on the ad hoc
committee investigating Fauzi's allegations.
"We want the committee to start the investigation as soon as possible," he
said at a Press conference after opening the Labuan Umno division meeting.
Dr Mahathir said the decision to carry out the investigation was made in
view of Fauzi's public statement on the issue.

Fauzi Still Beserah Assemblyman, Says Election Commission
KUANTAN, April 2 (Bernama) -- The Election Commission said it regards Kuantan Umno
division chief Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman as still the state assemblyman for Beserah since there
is no notification yet that the seat has been vacated.
Without such notice from the State Legislative Assembly Speaker, the state Election Office
could not declare the seat being vacant, said Pahang Election Officer Muhammad Safian Ismail
told Bernama on Monday. The procedure requires any assemblyman wishing to vacate his seat to submit a letter of
resignation letter to the Speaker who shall then notify the state Election Office of the seat
vacancy within three days. -- BERNAMA http://news.catcha.com/my/content.phtml?1&010&&

Chairs fly at women's wing meeting of Malaysia ruling
party KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 (AFP) - Chairs, bottles and cans were thrown and police
had to be called when a local meeting of the women's wing of Malaysia's ruling party
turned ugly, a report said Tuesday. The Star newspaper said trouble broke out Monday at Libaran in Sabah state during a
meeting of the women's wing of the local division of the United Malays National
Organisation (UMNO). Some 700 women delegates and observers rushed out of the community hall after the
main entrance glass panels were shattered, with two receiving minor injuries, it said.
Libaran UMNO information chief Samsuddin Yahya has lodged a complaint with police,
accusing nine people of causing the fracas.
UMNO is holding meetings nationwide to nominate candidates for its division elections
next month. The polls are closely watched as a precursor to the top leadership
elections in two years. The Star said trouble started after an UMNO member alleged there was cheating in
nominations and called for the meeting to be postponed. But this was rejected and a
group of people started to hurl objects at the delegates.
After police intervened the meeting proceeded as usual, it added.
